What is green HR?

Green HR is a branch of human resources that focuses on promoting and achieving long-term goals within an organization. It uses HRM policies to create employee awareness to build a comprehensive system for preserving natural resources. Green HRM practices are critical in a forward-thinking business that seeks alternative ways to save money without sacrificing talent or essential resources. It ranges from the promotion of energy conservation to the use of ethical practices. Its initiatives link various HR processes such as staffing, performance management, training, and development to long-term business success (Atreya, 2020).


Why is GHRM important?

Due to the threats and uncertainties that climate change has caused our world, sustainability plans are steadily growing within thousands of businesses today. The support of senior management is critical in an organization's implementation of sustainability management (Deka, 2021).

 


Few way of GHRM.

Change the temperature.

Setting your office thermostat three to five degrees higher than it is now and using fans to improve air flow and comfort can save you about three percent on cooling costs.

Use different type of light bulbs.

Replace incandescent light bulbs with Energy Star-certified LCD lighting, which lasts about 10 times longer and costs about 75% less to run.

Insist on a greener office fridge.

Direct Energy suggests cleaning the coils of one break room fridge twice a year, so if a dollar easily slips out when users close it between door seals, consider installing new gaskets to increase energy efficiency.

Increased Employee Retention.

Employee awareness increased by holding regular meetings to discuss the development of strategic green HR capability.
